TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Teachers and administrators in the Tupelo Public School District were recognized for their work this past year. The annual end of year celebration took place at the THS Fine Arts Auditorium. Highlights of the past school year were reviewed, and a number of awards were handed out to teachers, faculty and staff.

Ian Shumpert won the L.D. Hancock Award, which recognizes employees who are servant leaders, in and out of the classroom.

“Being a servant leader is one of the things we, one of the traits we feel we are, we ask things of people, sometimes a little demanding, but nothing we ask to do that we wouldn’t do ourselves. And we do that by joining in forces, in order to help our bottom line, which is our children.”

Those who are retiring from the district were also recognized. Students are out of school but TPSD teachers have a few more days until their summer break.
