Winston Academy Student Finishes 5th In National Spelling Bee

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD. (WCBI) –  Dev Jaiswal’s run at the Scripps National Spelling Bee came to an end on Thursday night.

He misspelled the word iridocyclitis.

The Winston Academy student finishes his run among the nation’s best spellers in fifth place.

The 13 year-old from Louisville actually led the way after five rounds.

Jaiswal received a standing ovation from the crowd as he left the stage, while soaking in the atmosphere and the competition.

“I worked hard and I made it back here, and I’m just happy that I made it all the way up here. I’ve blown my own mind with all that I’ve done, and I just want to thank everyone for all their support,” said Jaiswal to ESPN on Thursday night.

285 spellers started the competition in National Harbor, Maryland.

It ended in a tie.
