Zeh To Deliver Lecture At MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. — On Thursday, March 31, the Nell Peel Wolfe Lecture Series presented by Mississippi University for Women’s Ina E. Gordy Honors College will feature Katey Zeh, educator and advocate for global reproductive health.

In “Sex, Religion, and Politics: Bridging the Divides through Faith-Based Advocacy,” Zeh will discuss her work promoting maternal health, family planning and reproductive justice.

With a master of divinity from Yale Divinity School, in 2010 Zeh launched the only denominationally-sponsored advocacy campaign focused on global reproductive health.

Through grassroots education and advocacy with policy makers, The Healthy Families, Healthy Planet project mobilizes laypeople and faith leaders to support maternal health and international family planning.

In 2014, The Center for American Progress named Zeh one of 14 Faith Leaders to Watch in 2014 for using “her theological training and policy expertise to decry unfair policies that hurt women.”

Zeh was featured at the recent Sojourners Summit for Change and has written about global maternal health and family planning for many national publications such as Huffington Post, Sojourners, Religion Dispatches, Feminist Studies in Religion, and the United Methodist News Service.

She also serves on the board of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice and has worked with the Center for Health and Gender Equity and the Religious Institute, where she researched the intersections of economic and reproductive justice and created an initiative to educate faith communities about sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Zeh’s presentation at MUW is free and open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. in Nissan Auditorium.
