STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — After a long fight with colon cancer, Marcus Bush has passed away.

The current Strength and Conditioning Coach at UAB was 48 years old. He was the Blazers S&C Coach for the past 11 years.

Bush had a long and exceptional history in Starkville as a player and coach for the Bulldogs and SHS Yellow Jackets.

Before playing for Mississippi State, Bush led the Jackets to the school’s first ever football State Championship in 1984. He was the starting running back for Starkville as they defeated Callaway to win the Class 5A State Title.

Bush was a four-year letter winner at fullback for Mississippi State, playing for coaches Emory Bellard (’85) and Rocky Felker (’86-’88). He also earned Bulldog academic honor roll recognition during four semesters at MSU.

The Starkville native spent his last 11 years as Strength and Conditioning Coach for the UAB football team. He was a grad assistant for the Bulldog athletic program before his time in Birmingham.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville.
