Ole Miss’ Moody, Two MSU Players Named To Preseason All-SEC Teams

Birmingham, Ala. (WCBI Sports) – The SEC coaches honored an Ole Miss senior and two Mississippi State players Thursday in the men’s basketball preseason all-conference men’s selections.

Ole Miss guard Stefan Moody was picked to the All-SEC first team. He’s the leading returning scorer in the conference, averaging an SEC-best 18.6 points per game last season. The Rebels were picked to finish ninth in the conference last month by the media.

Mississippi State senior Craig Sword and freshman Malik Newman were named to the All-SEC second team Thursday. Sword led MSU in scoring a year ago at 11.3 points per game. The highly-recruited Newman was a star at Callaway High School in Jackson. Head coach Ben Howland has said he expects the guard to leave for the NBA after this season.

Both teams begin the season tomorrow. Ole Miss will host Northwestern State while Mississippi State will play Eastern Washington in Starkville.
