Video: Columbus Man Charged in Friday Shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man is charged with shooting into two occupied homes in Columbus Friday afternoon.

Police say 22-year-old Jarvis Alexander, of 2203 Hughes Lane, is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was detained about three hours after the shooting on 15th Avenue South near 5th Street just before 5 Friday afternoon.

Alexander fled the scene after the shooting. Police were called to the area for a shots fired call and discovered a 24-year-old had been shot and taken to Baptist Golden Triangle in a private vehicle for treatment.

Witness statements led them to Alexander as a suspect and he was detained at 23rd Avenue North and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
