Video: Students and Administration React to MSU Student’s Death

MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, Miss. (WCBI) — MSU continues to mourn the loss of student Andrew Demboski.

Demboski fell to his death after climbing on the Jumbotron at Davis Wade stadium early Saturday morning.

MSU’s Public Information Officer Sid Salter said in a press conference Monday that Demboski and two friends scaled the fence and got into the Jumbotron through a maintenance door, that he says should have been locked. They then climbed through a service hatch onto the roof of the board.

When the students started climbing down Demboski fell through the roof after stepping on a portion that would not support his weight.

One friend called for help ,but first responders had to break a padlock on the fence just to get in.

Demboski died on scene.

Salter says the other two students have not been charged ,but the university will no longer put up with this type of behavior.

” Let me make this very clear moving forward MSU intends to review all of our security measures. Why wouldn’t we? But it’s the intent of the university to in future to prosecute any further trespassers to the full extent of state law and that students will be subject to the very harshest administrative sanctions.”

Salter also says in 2015 and 2016 he has not found any formal complaints of people breaking into the stadium.

MSU students are dealing with the loss of one of their own.

Some say they knew it was possible to get into the stadium, but didn’t expect the stunt to end in death.

“I don’t know anyone personally that’s done it, but I’ve heard from people who’ve heard from people that it’s happened before. I don’t know how they get in but I know it’s somewhat of a common thing that’s done,” says student John Green.

“I’ve heard of people being able to get in the stadium at certain points, but I’ve never heard of anyone actually being able to climb up on the jumbotron or do anything close to that so it was a surprised to hear about what happened,” says student David Klein.

Some never knew it was possible.

” I’ve never heard that. I know they recently did construction and I passed by it everyday and I had no idea you could get up there, apparently you can,” says Sara Beard.

but all the these Bulldogs agree, they hope people learn from the deadly accident.

“I hope it gets out there so people will know maybe you shouldn’t try something like that,” Beard.

” It’s just a really tragic accident, I hope people learn from it because it’s sad but it could have been prevented,” says Green.

” It was a real tragedy what happened and personally I just hope no one tries to follow in their footsteps,” says Klein.

Many people are wondering if the boys were drinking but toxicology tests have not been released yet.
