Burning Van, Unidentified Body in Tuscaloosa County

BROOKWOOD, Ala. (WCBI) — Investigators are in the process of identifying a body found in a burning van in Tuscaloosa County early Thursday.

Dispatchers received a call from utility workers after finding the van on Camp Cherry Austin Road in Brookwood. Volunteer firefighters discovered the body after extinguishing the fire, but could not immediately identify whether the victim was a male or female.

Investigators are working on identifying who the van belongs to.

Those who may have been in the area shortly before the fire was reported, have been spoken to by investigators , but nothing suspicious was reported.

Authorities said there is a small window of time when the car was driven into the area and set on fire.

Arson investigators have been called to assist the investigation.
