TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – For many stores, the days after Christmas are just as busy as before the holiday.

We’re learning, the same can be said for local restaurants.

Katie Elam is the assistant manager at the Grill in Tupelo.

She says sales are higher this holiday season, compared to last year.

“Sales have been really, really good. We’ve completely beaten last year’s sales by a tremendous amount each day we’re doing, so for right now we’re just really preparing for New Years Eve really,” said Elam.

While the flow of customers at the Grill is usually steady, Elam and servers use any down time they can find to prepare for a big New Year’s Eve rush they restaurant is predicting.

“Sometimes you’re really busy all of a sudden or really slow all of a sudden, so it’s really that time of the year to get really focused and get everything ready,” said Elam.

There are daily specials and brunch to lure customers away from eating leftovers.

College football games are also a big draw for restaurants for those who want to get away for a few hours.

However, the staff knows a fresh product and look will keep customers returning, once the holiday’s are over.

“We love to be prepared and know what we’re going to have three days in advance so that way we can have everything for our guests so that way its so much better for our guests when they come in,” said Elam.

The Grill is also seeing an increase in gift cards after Christmas.

Those gift cards are another way the restaurant secures money for its bottom line during this time of year.
