LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It might be fall but some divers took to the chilly water on Thursday.
It was all apart of the re-certification process for the Columbus Fire and Rescue Divers.

Every three years, the divers are required to get re-certified.

The team has around ten dives a year to keep up their training.

Although they go on recovery missions only a few times a year, the divers say it’s important to keep up their skills.

“As part of the diving, we’re actually crawling along the bottom looking for objects, whether it be a human being or a weapon. But it’s very, very important for us to maintain our training,” said Shannon Murphy with Columbus Fire and Rescue.

Some divers became certified for the first time also.
The training was held at Laws Shoals.
