HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – Houston’s 288th Sapper Unit will be honored this weekend.

The Mississippi National Guard soldiers returned home in September from a year in Afghanistan. This Sunday, January 27 they will be honored with a welcome home ceremony. While in Afghanistan the 288th conducted route clearance operations. They recorded the highest improvised explosive device find and clear rates among all similar units.

The welcome home ceremony will be this Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Houston High School auditorium. During the ceremony the city of Houston will also rename the Highway 15 bypass to the Veteran’s Memorial Highway, in the 288th’s honor.
