Video: New Contract Means New Jobs at West Point Navistar Plant

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A new contract for Navistar Defense Manufacturing means two hundred new jobs. The US Army awarded a 38 point four million dollar contract to the West Point plant.

Navistar will reset and standardize MRAP vehicles currently in service overseas.A company spokesperson says the vehicles will be installed with new suspensions and other upgrades. City leaders are ecstatic about the new contract and what it means for the Golden Triangle.

“It’s kind of like Christmas, and we are so pleased. We do not know the exact number of jobs, but it will be jobs, and be jobs not only for West Point and Clay County, but the entire region. Navistar is a valued industry, and we are just so appreciative of them being in West Point.”

Navistar did confirm the number of jobs this afternoon.  Vehicle deliveries will begin in early next year. The contract is expected to end in June 2016.
