Video: Police Chief’s Resignation Made Official

MATHISTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Mathiston city leaders accept the resignation of their police chief.

Aldermen unanimously accepted Chief Shane Box’s letter, after he was suspended without pay because of missing inventory.

The city will hold a special election July 12 to select a new town marshal.

Mayor Jimmy Carden tells WCBI the change won’t impact the department’s ability to serve the community.

“We’re very well suited,” Carden said. “We have somebody on duty all the time and there’s an on-call officer for backup. Webster County helps us on the weekend. We’re very well covered. We’re in good shape as far as law enforcement.”

The Board of Alderman also accepted the hire of two more part-time officers.

The attorney general is currently investigating the situation.
