CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County residents had a chance to get an update on what’s happening in the nation’s capitol. First District Representative Trent Kelly held a town hall meeting Thursday in Caledonia.

The visit allowed Kelly an opportunity to let his constituents know how things are progressing in Washington. It also gave residents a chance to voice their concerns.

With talk of another round of base realignment and closure going around, one subject on many people’s minds is the future of the Columbus Air Force Base.

“Right now it is not an immediate thing. But now I can just tell you we’re going to do everything we can with Senator Cochran and Senator Wicker, and the rest of the Mississippi delegation to make sure that BRAC doesn’t affect Mississippi. Especially in Columbus. We train, we have more sorties in Columbus than anywhere else in the Air Force.”

Kelly is serving his first term in Congress.
