Schools Participate In Read Across America Celebration

NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Schools across the U.S. are taking part in Read Across America Day. It’s been happening all week and ends Friday, which happens to be Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

Friday, the Noxubee County High School Book Club spent the morning reading to kids at Touched By Angel Daycare.

It’s a week long celebration aiming to inspire kids to read and stress the importance of reading.

Noxubee County High School Librarian Director, Tiffany Ramsey says sharing a love of reading starts before your child is even born.

“Research has shown that you can start reading as early as when the baby is in the womb, and that has dramatic impacts in child development. So reading is very, very, very important,” said Ramsey.

The kids and readers dressed up as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters.

Ramsey says the book club works to inspire children to read all year long.
