ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – The tragic events of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut has sparked rememberance ceremonies all across the country.

Friday The Monroe County Sheriff Department held its own ceremony in honor of all the fallen children. Outside the Monroe County Detention Center crosses were set up, one for each child. Area residents, along with law enforcement and city leaders were there for a prayer and a moment of silence for reflection.

According to U.S. Marshall Dennis Erby,”It’s quite a shame in my opinion that we have to be worried about terrorism within when there is terrorism without. And so I wanted to come and personally and just let the people know that a representative for the United States Marshall service that we are in sorrow just as much as the communities through out this land.”

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell is planning on making some changes soon that will involve law enforcement in schools through out the area.
