JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi students may one day have a way to take more subjects or tackle more projects without in the same amount of school time.

State Superintendent Carey Wright is floating an idea that would allow students to test out of subjects they’ve mastered and move on to other material. The system would be similar to the Advanced Placement system colleges already use.

Rather than mandatory classroom time, Wright says the performance-based system would reduce boredom and drop outs, allow students and teachers to explore more material and allow more time for dual enrollment programs between high schools and colleges.
