Alabama Inmate Sought; Pair Face Charges in Mantachie

MANTACHIE, Miss. (AP) – It started out as a case of strong-armed robbery, but Mantachie police say they now suspect embezzlement.

Mantachie Police Chief Mark Roberts says a woman claimed she was robbed Saturday while depositing money at a local bank. The woman was depositing money from the Dollar General store in Mantachie where she works.

After further investigation Sunday, Roberts says the case no longer appears to have been a robbery.

Investigators say it appears the woman and a man set it up, hoping to get away with the cash. Both were arrested on Sunday.

Roberts says most of the evidence has been recovered by police and says they will release further details when they charge the pair.
