Broyles Named Interim VP at MSU

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Bill Broyles will assume the role of interim vice president of Mississippi State University’s Division of Student Affairs.

Broyles is filling the vacancy created by the departure this month of Bill Kibler, who recently was named president of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.
“Dr. Kibler has been an outstanding member of our leadership team at Mississippi State University,” said MSU President Mark E. Keenum. “We wish Bill and his family every success as he assumes this challenging new opportunity in the Texas university system. The Kiblers depart MSU with my deepest gratitude and warmest regards.”

The division’s assistant vice president since 2006, Broyles’ appointment was announced Monday [July 14] by Keenum, pending formal approval by the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.

“Bill Broyles has more than 26 years of experience in this division at Mississippi State, including the past 8 as assistant vice president,” Keenum said. “I have complete confidence in his abilities and his understanding of the Student Affairs area.

“This knowledge, along with his exceptional work ethic and his love for students, make him the clear choice for interim vice president,” he added.

In the interim role, Broyles will oversee the operations of several divisional units, including the departments of admissions and scholarships, police, housing and residence life, recreational sports, assessment and testing services, dining services, as well as University Health Services, and the Office of the Dean of Students.

The Colvard Student Union, Center for America’s Veterans, Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement, and Student Support Services also are housed under the division’s administrative umbrella.

Broyles will continue as the division’s chief financial officer, a duty he has held as assistant vice president. A certified public accountant, he is an MSU alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration.

In the role of assistant vice president, he was instrumental in the “MSU on the Move” health initiative that most recently saw the addition of a one-mile walking track around Chadwick Lake. He also is managing the construction of a new Fresh Food Company eatery scheduled to open on the south end of campus in fall 2015.

Additionally, he was a key member of a campus team which developed a long-range capital improvements program in housing and residence life, resulting in construction of seven new residence halls. He has chaired numerous campus committees including employee benefits, the Professional and Support Staff Advisory Council, and several student affairs search committees.

In his response to the appointment, Broyles said, “It’s an honor to serve the students, faculty and staff at Mississippi State. I never dreamed that in my lifetime I’d have the opportunity to use my energy and talents to help this university become the best it can be.

“Anything that Mississippi State needs me to do, I’m happy to do it,” he added.

Broyles came to MSU in 1979 as a financial manager in the university’s auxiliary services department. Over the years, he also has served as assistant comptroller, associate director of the Student Health Center and assistant to the vice president for student affairs.

In 1999, he was honored with the Donald W. Zacharias Distinguished Staff Award, Executive Division, and in 2013, the MSU Friend of the Student Association Award.
