COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man and his son are looking for a place to stay today after a fire late Wednesday night.

Firefighters say Anderson Tate Junior was cooking french fries when he fell asleep at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The stove caught fire and spread, heavily damaging his home on 15 St. North.

Tate and his son, Anderson Tate III, escaped uninjured, but don’t have insurance on the house or their belongings.

The Red Cross and the city’s Community Action agency are trying to assist the family.
