Police in Martinsburg, W. Va., say 28-year-old Samson Edmond died at a Martinsburg hospital after being shot shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday outside the Brickhouse Bar and Grill.

Five people were taken into a custody for questioning two hours later.

Martinsburg is located in state’s western panhandle near the Maryland state line.

Edmond earned a purple heart after being injured by an IED while serving in Iraq in 2005 and 2006 with the Mississippi National Guard’s 114th Field Artillery Unit. He was a specialist in the National Guard.
