OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Oktibbeha County School District was officially declared in a “state of emergency” by the Governor on Friday and Monday (10/1)  Interim Conservator Jayne Sargent arrived in Oktibbeha County.  Board Supervisor Orlando Trainer says they are looking forward to working with the new Conservator and getting the district back on track.

“Basically, we’re looking for someone to come in and maybe help us to address whatever the concerns are to get us back into compliance. I think right now you probably have a lot of concern and unrest amongst the staff, those administrators that are left there and also amongst students. Quite naturally that would have a negative impact on the educational learning process,” says Trainer.

Oktibbeha County Supervisor Orlando Trainer hopes the recent action by the state to take over the school district is a wake-up call for parents to get involved. Interim Conservator Jayne Sargent arrived in Oktibbeha County Monday afternoon and began visiting district schools. In August, Oktibbeha County received a “D” ranking for failing 29 out of 30 Accreditation standards. Trainer says now is not the time to place blame, but to do what’s right for the students.

A parent meeting regarding the district takeover was planned for tonight at East Oktibbeha County High School at 6 o’clock.  Sargent was scheduled to attend.
