Destination Imagination Statewide Challenge Held at Columbus Middle School

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Students from across the state gathered at Columbus Middle School Saturday to show just how creative they can be when solving problems.

About 250 students from grades 2 through 12 competed in the “Destination Imagination” problem solving tournament.

Since October, the students have been designing costumes, props and skits to win the highest honors in the state.

Students who participate learn team work, critical thinking and develop skills that will benenfit them in their careers.

Tournament Director Michelle Carter says the students gain other valuable lessons as well.

“The students have really come together and have overcome some difficulties, maybe overcome some shyness, and have made friends,” Carter said.

More than 200,000 students compete in Destination Imagination around the world each year.
