Election Day Reminder for Tuesday, June 3rd Primary

From PRESS RELEASE

Jackson, MS — The 2014 Primary Election will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Mississippians will cast a ballot for Congressional and Senatorial candidates in the party primaries.

“In some instances, the tone of campaign rhetoric may affect turnout on Election Day,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “We do not need go farther than the recent Memorial Day holiday than to remember the importance of the vote and our right, and obligation to cast a ballot.”

Party primaries are conducted by the Democratic and Republican parties. Polls will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on Election Day.

Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by the Circuit Clerk’s Office by Monday, June 2nd.

“Mississippi deserves to be well represented in Washington, D.C. Tuesday is the day for our citizens to choose their spokesperson on critical issues. Candidate positions, and not special interest advertising, should earn your vote,” adds Secretary Hosemann.

Some tips for Election Day:

  • Identification: ALL voters will have to present one of the following forms of acceptable photo identification in order to vote:

The expired ID must contain the name and photograph of the voter, and have been validly issued by the federal or a state government.A voter who does not have photo ID on Election Day will be asked to vote by affidavit ballot at the polling place.
