Finding Love Online

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — With Valentine’s Day is less then two weeks away, and love is on the mind. Many of us still enjoy the traditional ways of courting, but millions have turned the page to a new way of dating.

As the saying goes, I’ve been looking for love, in all the wrong places.
But now some say, your perfect match… is just clicks away.

Terry Swetz said, “I wanted to get married again so I got on the internet.”

Whether this is your first time at love, or you’re looking for that second chance, the internet may just be an option for you.  In recent years it has become a way for people to connect in ways they couldn’t before.
With over 40 million people logged onto dating sites, there is a fish in the sea for everyone.

“When doing it, you just have to fill out your profile and it’ll ask you life questions. You know, do you want a child? Whats your relationship status now?  What are your hobbies?  Where do you see yourself in the future, and to me that is a really good thing.  It’s kind of like going on an interview process before you go on the first date,” said Meredith King.

For most, taking the first step is the hardest.  King, was encouraged to sign up on Match.com by her best friend.

As King recalls her experience, she said, “I said well you know, I having nothing to loose and everything to gain.”

Little did she know, she would meet her future fiance.

“I actually sent him a wink on Match.com, it was like a Saturday and then he sent me a message and then I paid for the subscription just so I could read his message,” she said when describing their courtship.

King is not the only one finding love through the internet. Terry Swetz recalls meeting his current wife online. After months of emails, Swetz traveled to the Philippians to meet the love of his life.

“It is one of the best things I ever did is the internet dating. I’m a very happy person now,” said Swetz.

Terry’s not alone. According to a study published by the National Academy of Sciences , more than one third of marriages in america begin online.
