Food Stamp Fraud

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The state is fighting back residents making false claims on food stamps.

Mississippi residents receive the most food assistance in the United States, with one quarter of the population receiving benefits.

1700 people were disqualified from the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for making false claims and stealing over $2.7 million.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services started tracking replacement card request back in July of 2011.

Since June of this year 263 households reported missing EBT cards over 5 times.

Those likely to lose their cards are elderly people, those with mental issues or unstable families.
