MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-A Monroe County man drowns today while mowing his yard. Monroe County 911 received a call just before 10:00 this morning that a man had run into a pond behind house while mowing. He was not visible. Emergency teams were on the scene to airlift 73 year-old Tom Rossi for treatment. Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says the mower overturned. Rossi was in the pond for more than 15 minutes.
Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told WCBI, “Mr. Tom Rossi was mowing hs yard. There was a lake behind his house. He was mowing by the lake and somehow or another got a little close.”
Although emergency teams were able to revive the victim, he later died at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Monroe County Coroner, Alan Gurley, ruled the cause of death as an accidental drowning.
