COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — From historic Columbus ton the east to music-rich Greenwood and Greenville on the west, the Highway 82 corridor across Mississippi is filled with culture and heritage.

And now residents and visitors alike will know more about the many attractions across the 181-mile stretch that runs through eight counties.

The state has designated Highway 82 as the state’s first “Cultural Highway.”

The designation coincides will last month’s 100th birthday of America’s playwright Tennessee Williams who was born in Columbus.

The state tourism bureau plans to erect markers along the route pointing out historic and cultural sites to attract tourists to towns like Eupora, Starkville, Winona, Carrollton and other locations.
