COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – There has been a functional revolution in fitness training.
Free weights and machines still have their place, but people are using real world movements to burn fat and increase strength.
Keith Gibson is on board that fitness train.
He wants add 10 pounds of muscle by Memorial Day, and he has a trainer to keep him on track.
Standing at a statuesque 6 feet 3 inches tall and tipping the scales at 150 pounds, WCBI Chief Meteorologist Keith Gibson is not overweight by any measure.
Keith says, ” Well the plan here is to actually tone up. I have been thin for a long time, but I actually want to build some muscle mass, and now is the time to do it, I’m not getting any younger, so let’s go ahead and see what we can do.”
Keith enlisted Fitness Factor personal trainer Whitney Brown to help meet his rippling muscular goal.
She says, ” Not only are we helping him with his fitness routine, but we are also going to work with him on some nutritional components, which is really essential to making any kind of changes on your body. The pairing of nutrition and exercise.”
After several minutes of stretching and rolling, Keith was ready to get rocking.
Whitney put Keith through a series of functional paces.
He worked against his own body weight on pull ups and push ups.
Then he got to swinging the kettle bell and went on a farmers walk.
A thick rope blasted Keith shoulders while keeping his core engaged.
The whole workout takes about 45 minutes.
Keith will strength train, like this, under a trainer’s close supervision twice a week.
Two other days, he’ll take hour long classes that are a mixture of cardio and strength training.
By the time the Indy 500 rolls around, we should all see the results.
Whitney says, “Am I making a promise on air? Sure, absolutely. It can happen, but we’ll have to have Keith’s commitment, and we’ll help keep him accountable.”
Keith concludes, ” Down the road will be a whole different Keith.”
