Video: Local School Takes Victory in State Robotics Competition

Tupelo, Miss. (WCBI) – A team from Tupelo High School takes top honors in a state robotics competition.

The team won first place at the VEX Robotics State Competition earlier this week. Now the six member team advances to the world championship.

Students have been working on their robot since January and have taken what they’ve learned at the career and technical center at THS and applied that for their competition entry.

Instructor Amanda Wood says students are learning valuable skills they can use long after high school.

“Learning programming and robotics  in high school is a huge deal. As far as they’ve gone , this is their second time to compete and now we’re going to compete with the world so it’s really amazing to see what they’ve done.”

The team will compete at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Anaheim California at the end of April.
