LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Lowndes County School Board again puts on hold the decision to vote on a new school bond for the district.

During its Friday meeting, the board unanimously agreed to schedule a work session to further discuss the school bond.

The board originally wanted a Feb. 3 bond referendum.

The board plans to decrease the amount of the bond from $47 million to less than $40 million.

According to Superintendent Lynn Wright, the lower amount bond will not raise taxes.

Wright says with certain changes, he believes more people will vote for the bond.

“We want to make sure we do it right and we want to get enough information out there to everyone so they could make an inform decision and it’s a great opportunity for our students and for Lowndes county and we want to see it go forward,” says Wright.

The previous $47 million school bond didn’t have enough votes to pass back in August.
