LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County thought it was done with debris clean up from the four tornadoes that touched down in the county on April 28. Turns out it isn’t over.

After making as many as five passes through some of the hardest hit areas, the county let its debris contractor go last month.

But new piles of debris have started showing up.

County Administrator Ralph Billingsley and Road Manager Ronnie Burns will devise a plan for county crews to pick up the remaining debris on Fridays. The county will set a “drop dead” date that all debris must be in the rights-of-ways for county removal. After that, the property owner will be responsible.

That date likely will be sometime later this month.
