Moreland Defends Democratic Leaders

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Former Starkville Mayoral Candidate Dan Moreland defends three Democratic leaders in Starkville who attended a fundraiser for him during his campaign.

Aldermen Henry Vaughn and Roy Perkins and Alderman-Elect Lisa Wynn attended the May 19 event at Moreland’s home where Governor Phil Bryant was also a guest.

In a letter to the Democratic Executive Committee, Moreland says the three were invited to meet the Governor since they will have to work with state-wide elected officials in their roles as city leaders.

Moreland wrote, “As we compete with other cities throughout the state for economic development opportunities, I feel it is important that our Aldermen get to know the Governor and form a good working relationship with him and other statewide leaders in order to stay competitive.”

Moreland added that neither Vaughn, Perkins, nor Wynn gave a donation his campaign for mayor or endorsed him.

Parker Wiseman defeated Moreland in the general election.
