GULF COAST, Miss. (WCBI) -A major issue aside from all the flooding on the Gulf Coast is power outages.

Progress is being made local officials and residents don’t feel it’s quick enough.

In Louisiana alone 246 thousand residents are still without electricity that’s down from 900 thousand at its peak.

In Mississippi as of Saturday over 12,000 customers are dealing with the same conditions.

Close to 950 meters can’t be reconnected because of flooding or damage.

State officials say, it could be weeks before power could be restored to some areas.

Isaac is said to cost insurers close to $2 billion in claims.
