SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — When school starts back next August, Smithville students will be back on their regular campus.

After recent weather delays, crews are back at work.

Construction has begun on the band hall, while ground has been broken for the new dome gymnasium.

By summer, the new elementary school should be almost completed. According to Monroe County Superintendent of Education Scott Cantrell, everything is on schedule for the Smithville Schools to be moved back on the regular campus when school starts in August.

Much of the campus was damaged or destroyed when a deadly EF-5 tornado hit the Monroe County town in April 2011.
