Starkville Trooper Post Issues Warning

FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROL

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Due to the information gathered from multiple weather reports, we are assured that we will experience some sort of Winter weather related event tonight and tomorrow in our District(5). The question is what it will be and how much. It is important to remember that it doesn’t take much to make travel hazardous. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is asking that only in cases of emergency or absolutely necessary that anyone travel tomorrow. Don’t wait until you have started your journey to decide it was a bad idea. Anticipate Law Enforcement to be extremely busy with those that didn’t heed warnings. If you are off a roadway due to ice it could be quite some time before help arrives.

If you need to know about road conditions please dial 511. Do not call law enforcement agencies for that information. Operators and dispatchers will be extremely busy getting help to those who need it on the roadways. Expect bridges and elevated roadways to be the initial problem areas. You can monitor us on Twitter @MHPTroopG as we will attempt to keep the public alert with conditions and problem areas as we receive reports.
