UNDATED, Ala. (WCBI)-Alabama may soon join Mississippi in similar legislation on abortion restrictions.

The Alabama State Senate has passed a bill that requires tougher standards for clinics that perform abortions.

Supporters say the tighter requirements on clinics would force them out of business.

Bill 57 requires abortion clinics to use doctors who have approval to admit patients to hospitals in the same city.

It also sets stricter building requirements, including wider halls and better fire suppression systems.

The bill will go back to the house before going to the governor for final approval.
