TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Assistant teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians and other non-certified staff at Tupelo schools are getting raises.

The school board has approved pay increases of almost 4 percent for the staff that works behind the scenes to make sure schools operate efficiently.

Teachers aren’t included because they have raises in the state salary scale.

The raises will cost the school district about $593,000, including benefits, but school leaders say the district has the money in its budget. The raise is part of a salary schedule adopted last year to try to keep the district competitive with both the public and private sector for similar jobs.

Tupelo is one of the few districts likely to provide pay raises this year to non-certified workers.
