COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- With live music and food, Columbus Air Force Base Colonel Jim Sears announced the results of last week’s inspection.

“170 inspectors came here from 10 different inspection teams to grade 61,000 different items, says Col. Sears.

From logistics within air traffic control to health codes, the airmen and the base spent one week under the critical eyes of the inspectors. Leaders tell WCBI the base met standards in all graded areas,” says Col. Sears.

“I’m extremely proud of the men and women here, because it validated what we know and we know we are the premiere flying training wing and community in the United States Air Force and we’re developing the world’s greatest airmen here,” says Col. Jim Sears.

With inspections now over, the Columbus Air Force Base will now focus on its $31 million runway reconstruction project.

“We’re going to shut down that center runway. One of our 3 runways for 6 months as we resurface it all the way to the core of the runway for the 1st time since it was built in the 1950s. There will be a lot of construction on that entire runway from essentially March until September. It’s the longest runway in Mississippi,” says Col. Sears.

Sears hopes the airmen and women will use this year’s success as a lesson for years to come.

“Take the results we got and learn what those things are so we can ensure that we do the job better tomorrow because at the end of the day that’s what we are all about. The U.S. Air Force and the 14th Flying Training Wing is trying to make everything we touch better for tomorrow,” says Col. Sears.

Sears wants to also thank the Columbus community. He says the inspector general reconzied that the men and women did an amazing job welcoming the inspection team during their week in the golden triangle.
