WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — Work on the $500 million Yokohama Tire plant in Clay County is on schedule for the start of production in 14 months.

But there’s a whole lot more going on to bring the project together.

West Point utility crews hope to start filling a new 1 million-gallon water tank to serve the plant and surrounding areas by the end of this week. And contractors are putting the finishing touches on that tower and water and sewer lines and a lift station to serve the 1,100-acre plant site.

Meanwhile, a 4-mile, four-lane road linking Highway 45 Alternate to the plant is 60 percent complete. The $19.4 million road project includes four bridges and is supposed to be finished by the end of the year.
