COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)  – Columbus neighborhoods with poor cell phone service won’t get any relief anytime soon. Tuesday night the City Council rejected the Planning Commission’s unanimous recommendations to remove some restrictions to open more areas to towers. The Council vote was 3 to 2. The changes would have opened all zoning districts to towers but they would have to be a certain distance from homes and each tower would have to be approved by the Planning Commission and Council. Council opponents said they didn’t want them at all in residential areas. Neighborhoods in east and north Columbus have expressed the greatest need for improved service.
