Video: Columbus Firefighters Practice Overland Rescue Skills

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -Emergency responders are searching for missing hunter. The man was out hunting in Lowndes County. He didn’t return at , the appointed time, and his family reported him missing.

This time it was just a drill, but it’s the type of scenario that plays out every year. This week firefighters from Columbus Fire Rescue are emphasizing the “Rescue” aspect of the job.The exercise involved a wilderness search, removing an unconscious victim from a deer stand, and getting him safely out of the woods.

These drills keep the department operating at peak performance, and they help build public confidence.

“We get calls all the time about people who have gone missing. We go out, find them, and bring them back home. Try to get them back home safe.”

Columbus Fire Rescue is the first department in Mississippi to be accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
