COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Since being hired as Superintendent for the Columbus Municipal School district in July, Dr. Phillip Hickman has hit the ground running.

Finalizing the district budget, the purchase of a new curriculum, and reviewing last year’s test scores have dominated the agenda. Today, he delivered a progress report to the Columbus Rotary Club.

In spite of the district’s challenges, Dr. Hickman  sees some bright spots:

“A surprise was the disappointment with the student achievement, but we are really coming together and devising a plan to be able to be successful and impact kids.”

Hickman remains focused on raising student test scores, and he is pushing for upgrades in technology across the district.
