VERONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Some North Mississippi residents are turning to the experts for gardening advice.

The North Mississippi Research and Extension Center in Verona held its annual Fall Flower and Vegetable Show.

Mississippi State University horticultural experts were on hand to lead tours of the flower and vegetable gardens at the facility, as well as answer questions.

Jeff Wilson is the area horticulture agent for the MSU extension service.

He says more people are wanting to grow their own vegetables.

“Growing your own fruits and vegetables and your other food sources is become ever more popular,” Wilson said. “And so is the farmers markets because people want to know who they’re buying their local food from and how it’s being grown and that’s a couple of the reasons people are wanting to grow their own foods.”

Wilson says the MSU extension service continues to do research that can help residents grow better food in their home vegetable garden.
