STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s a program that’s saved the lives of more than 3,200 animals in Mississippi.
The Homeward Bound Project at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine is celebrating a new milestone with the purchase of a new transport unit designed for transporting pets. The vehicle can accomodates up to 60 animals and is an effort to help place animals in loving homes.
“We did this because we pretty much saw an overwhelming demand due to the over population problem that we have and one way we saw we could attack this was by helping improve neuters and spades and pulling animals out of these shelters,” said Veterinarian Dr. Amy White.
The project has been up and running since May of 2007. Organizers are hoping the new 86 thousand dollar addition will help provide more homes for more animals.
The project also allows MSU vet students to receive hands on experience caring for animals.
