Winston County, Miss.[WCBI]-Dean Park in Winston County reopens for the first time since the deadly April 28th Tornado. The park is beginning to show signs of life again.

Just off Highway 15 in Winston County, Friends of Dean Park gather, unveiling several murals on a concession stand, honoring a special lady whose work with children is well documented.

“And she was credited for rescuing the four year old young lady Ashtyn Mitchell and she lost her life in the process,” said Richard Moncrief/Friends Of Dean Park.

And for that she gets a hero’s recognition.

“She loves, love, love, love, kids. It was her passion. She would do anything for those kids as well as her own kids,” said Carnesha Bennett/Hero’s Daughter.

Little Ashtyn whose life was spared that day of the tornado could not help but wave at the mural of Miss Ruth Eichelberger-Bennett, completed by an Atlanta artist.

“Miss Ashtyn is a part of the mural. Miss Ashtyn is doing quite well now. She has a slight limp but physically she has come a long ways,” said Elmetra Eichelberger-Patterson/Friends Of Dean Park.

And every time a customer visits the concession stand, they are sure to ask….who is that lady and the little child next to her?

“I’m excited I’m very very very excited that they would do something like this for her,” said Carnesha Bennett.

The ARC awarded Friends of Dean Park a $3,000 mini-grant to make improvements at the facility, in light of the tornado they decided to renovate and dedicate the concession stand.
