JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s the first request in several years. Governor Phil Bryant is asking lawmakers to add $5 million to the promotions budget.

If approved, some money would provide matching funds to help local tourism.

In North Mississippi, that would include everything from historic sites and Civil War battlefields to recreation on the Tenn-Tom Waterway. Other options would be convincing visitors to stay in the state longer.

The promotions budget is normally $3 million.
