RIPLEY, Miss. (WCBI)-New Albany, Corinth, Philadelphia and now Ripley. A group of residents are using a new state law to try to get enough voter signatures on petitions to call for a referendum on the sale of alcohol in the city. The group has about 500 signatures but needs 800 to call for the vote. They are mailing petitions to registered voters this week asking them to sign the forms and return them. The year-old state law allows county seats and towns with a population over 5,000 to vote on alcohol sales without other county residents participating.
