TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Christmas is only weeks away and while most of us are shopping for children, family and friends, there are some families in our area who can barely make ends meet.

For those families, Christmas morning would be just another day, some good Samaritans are coming to the rescue.

As co owner of Cafe 212, Jason Hayden stays busy.A few weeks ago, Hayden began hearing about a grassroots charity whose sole purpose is to help a couple of families this Christmas.

“I heard about Silent Santa first on social media. I started asking around to see if it was anyone I knew,” said Hayden.

Once he found out who was behind “Tupelo Silent Santa,” Hayden began encouraging his customers, friends and family to support the cause.

Hayden continued, “I can say, Jason Hayden, owner of Cafe 212 that we 100 percent vouch for this, and you can completely trust the people involved in this and it’s going to be an amazing thing.”

Those who formed Tupelo Silent Santa want to remain anonymous. After hours of investigating various leads, we tracked down a spokesman for “Silent Santa” we will call him one of Santa’s elves. He says a group of friends wanted to do something to help a couple of needy families in the area.

“It will be something that will bring the family together and every kid needs a gift like we’re giving.”

Donations can be made through a website, TupeloSilentSanta.com and on Christmas morning, the families will receive a special present.

“We hope it brings some joy to some people who really need it.”

Tupelo resident Jessica Hollinger believes Silent Santa captures the true spirit of Christmas.

“This group of people could’ve gathered a bunch of money and done all this by themselves but they really want it to be a community effort, something that is going to last.”

Donations can be made to Silent Santa through Christmas Eve. In Tupelo I’m Allie Martin WCBI News
