PRENTISS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Senior citizens can be among the community’s most valuable citizens. They also can be the most vulnerable.

Today, older adults and the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department partnered together to talk about how they can help each other and to demonstrate the many services offered to older adults in the county.

The 13th Annual Senior Citizens Appreciation Day was an opportunity to thank seniors for everything from being watchful eyes in the community to the service they’ve provided during their lives.

“When other people are at work and doing their jobs during the daytime, they’re at home and they see suspicious activity,” Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar said. “Then, they can report it to us and it helps us very often in solving crimes that occur during the day.”

The event was held at the Booneville First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, and featured dozens of vendors and music from local artists.
